Pure Cremation Review: Prices, What's Included and Fees

Pure Cremation is a UK provider that specialises in direct cremation, meaning a cremation with no funeral service, where the family does not normally attend (attending is an optional extra). In September 2026 its standardised price list showed £1,595 for an unattended cremation, plus £260 if the person is collected from a home or other place without a mortuary. It does not publish one price for its prepaid plan. Plans are quoted individually and fixed for life. It covers mainland Great Britain but not Northern Ireland.

What is Pure Cremation?

Pure Cremation is based in Andover, Hampshire. It operates its own crematoria, including Charlton Park in Andover, and uses partner crematoria in some areas, such as Scotland. It is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority for funeral plans, and it sells both pay-at-need cremations and prepaid plans.

How much does Pure Cremation cost?

What the £1,595 includes

• Collection by private ambulance, at any hour
• A solid wood coffin, usually cedar
• Care of the person before the cremation
• The cremation itself, including removal of a pacemaker or other medical device
• A ceramic identification disc
• Ashes hand-delivered to you in a biodegradable urn, or scattered in a garden of remembrance if you prefer

Pure says ashes are usually hand-delivered within about 14 days of the cremation.

What it does not include

Does Pure Cremation charge extra for a death at home?

If you arrange at need without a plan, yes. The price list shows £260 for urgent collection from anywhere without a hospital or hospice mortuary. Pure says people with a prepaid plan pay no extra home collection charge. Older reviews of Pure Cremation quote different figures, so use the current price list instead.

How do Pure Cremation funeral plans work?

A prepaid plan lets you pay for a funeral at today's price. Pure Cremation does not publish a single plan price. It says every plan is quoted individually in under two minutes, online or by phone, with no health questions and guaranteed acceptance. Once quoted, the price is fixed for life.

• Payment: a single payment or monthly instalments over one, two, five or ten years. Instalments cost more in total than a single payment, so compare the totals.
• Age limits on instalments: the terms list 18 to 100+ for one- and two-year plans, 18 to 84 for five years and 40 to 74 for ten years.
• Coverage: mainland England, Wales and Scotland, and the Isle of Skye.

Check what happens if the plan holder dies early in an instalment plan. The terms include a qualifying period for natural causes (12 months of on-time payments for a one-year plan, 2 years for longer plans; accidental death is covered from day one), so read what happens to the balance or any refund.

How safe is the money?

Since 29 July 2022, funeral plan providers in the UK must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme protects regulated funeral plans up to £85,000 per person per firm. If a provider fails, FSCS typically arranges a replacement plan on the same terms, or pays compensation. Pure Cremation says plan money is held in an independent trust and reinsured with Munich Re. What is the cancellation policy?

The terms for plans say:

• Single-payment plans: 30-day cooling-off period, full refund.
• Instalment plans: a longer cooling-off period, one year for one-year plans and two years for longer ones.
• After cooling-off: a £350 cancellation fee is deducted from the refund. If you have paid less than £350, there is no refund.

Points to weigh up

• Your loved one is taken to Pure's own facility or a partner, which may be far from where they died.
• There is no individual plan price to compare before you ask for a quote.
