Most adults don't have a will, usually because it feels complicated or expensive. For many people a simple will does the job: it names who inherits, who is in charge (your executor) and who would care for your children.

Answer the questions at your own pace. Your answers stay in your browser: we never see or store them. When you're done, you get a print-ready will and a checklist for signing it correctly in your state. In almost every state that means signing in front of two adult witnesses. Most states also let you add a notarized self-proving affidavit, which makes probate faster later.

This is a self-help document tool, not a law firm, and it doesn't give legal advice. If your situation is complicated, for example a blended family, a business, property in more than one country or a large estate, we'll tell you to talk to an estate attorney instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is a will made online legally valid?

A will is valid if it meets your state's signing rules, however it was written. In almost every state you sign it in front of two adult witnesses, who sign it too. The will comes with a checklist for your state.

Do I need a notary?

Usually not for the will itself. Most states let you add a self-proving affidavit, signed in front of a notary, which saves your executor time in probate. Banks and shipping stores often offer notary services.

Do you store my answers?

No. Your answers are kept in your own browser so you can come back to them. We never receive them.

When should I use a lawyer instead?

If you want a trust, own a business, have property in another country, want to leave someone out of your will, or expect your estate to owe estate tax, talk to an estate planning attorney.
